Clean Water-Donate Your Birthday for a Good Cause: via Santa Rosa Interior Design

For me, charity is practical. It’s sometimes easy, more often inconvenient, but always necessary. It’s the ability to use one’s position of influence, relative wealth and power to affect lives for the better. charity is singular and achievable.

Founder of Charity Water, Scott Harrison

Charity: Water is a non-profit organization who’s goal is to bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations.

Charity: Water believes that BIRTHDAYS CAN CHANGE THE WORLD so they started the September Campaign.

WHAT’S THE SEPTEMBER CAMPAIGN?

Charity: water started with a birthday party. When founder Scott Harrison turned 31, he asked everyone he knew to come to a party and bring money for clean water instead of gifts. He raised more than $15,000 and they used the money to give water to people living in a refugee camp in Uganda. In 2007 they did it again, but asked others born in September to join in as well. They gave up birthday gifts and together raised $150,000 to bring clean water to hospitals and schools in Kenya. A year later, 900 people joined the movement, and almost $1 million was raised through birthdays. This year, they’re doing it again — but bigger.  They hope to bring clean and safe drinking water to a forgotten people in a forgotten nation: the Bayaka in Central African Republic. The 210 water projects that will serve 90,000 people will cost $1.7 million — an ambitious goal, but one they feel they can reach with your help.

Do you want to help?  Watch your birthday change the world.  Start your campaign today!

Facts:

  • a billion people on the planet don’t have access to clean, safe drinking water. That’s one in eight of us.
  • 90% of the 42,000 deaths that occur every week from unsafe water and unhygienic living conditions are to children under five years old.
  • Unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation cause 80% of diseases and kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war.
  • 90% of the 42,000 deaths that occur every week from unsafe water and unhygienic living conditions are to children under five years old.
  • In Africa alone, people spend 40 billion hours every year just walking for water. Women and children usually bear the burden of water collection.  One container when full weighs 40 pounds.

My charity: water is a website where you can create fundraising campaigns and collect donations. Every dollar raised is tracked to a water project, and just $20 can provide clean water for one person for 20 years.

You can follow Charity Water on FacebookTwitter and through their blog.
