Paella Event at Marimar Estate

Paella Event at Marimar Estate

Another perfect day this past week end as a great group of our friends got together for a paella event at Marimar Estate and entertaining Sonoma Style™. As you all know I am a paella aficionado so it was a delight to enjoy one that I didn’t actually have to cook myself!

Of the many reasons to live here in Sonoma County, wine and food are right up at the top. Many of our social activities revolve around meeting good friends as we “break bread” together and share the wonderful wines of our region. Many of the wineries right out our back yard hold events for their wine club members and their guests. It’s a great way to enjoy tasting locally harvested foods and new vintages of boutique wines as well as old favorites.

About 3 miles from my home is Marimar Estate, owned and run by Marimar Torres, the daughter of the famous Torres family, and vineyards in Vilafranca del Penedès, Spain. Educated in Spain and here in Stanford University, she is great at combining the best of both worlds. This past week end she held one of her most well known and publicized events, a paella meal. Because we are in lent season leading up to Easter, we experienced a seafood paella that is a more subtly flavored paella then the one with chorizo and chicken that most people here in the US normally think of as paella.

Can I say, it was delicious; the whole event, beginning with tapas on the deck overlooking views of the vineyard. We then moved inside for the main meal, a stunning beet soup as appetizer, the paella, and a dessert of meyer lemon cake accompanied by their (and my favorite) chardonnay, and for the main course their pinot noir. It was a feast not to be missed! Marimar has also published her own cook books with the best of her recipes from Spain including her adaptations as she highlights locally grown food. I highly recommend her Spanish Table cookbook. It contains most of the foods I remember loving when I lived in Barcelona as a child. I’m incredibly lucky to live in this amazing part of our world, one that is ripe with the fruits from our very own soil.

It’s truly the best in entertaining Sonoma Style™!
