Continuing my series on kitchen trends as I see them moving into 2013, here is part 2…Everyone knows, wants and usually has a window in the kitchen, right? But now-a-days letting the outside into your kitchen is becoming even more prevalent and indoor/outdoor living is a big part of kitchen design; especially in parts of the world like Sonoma County with both coastal and country living!
Let’s take a look at how you can let nature into your kitchen:
Windows are great, but using skylights as well adds a different dimension
When you have the luxury of adding a wall of windows, think Nana Wall, make them disappear!
If your home is more traditional in feel, add a wall of traditional windows and doors
In a smaller home, like my little ranch house, I’ll be adding an indoor/outdoor seating area, and a great way to pass food and dishes back and forth. I CAN’T WAIT to do my own kitchen remodel!
And last but not least, add windows in unexpected spots, like this great backdrop to your cooking area….couldn’t you see yourself forgetting about the sauce at this stove?
So tell me, don’t you dream of letting the outside into your kitchen?
Be sure to stay tuned for more kitchen trends coming up, and read about all of them here, and remember, trends are long range, trendy is in and out…we are talking trends! Cheers….

SO, SO IN LOVE HERE! Absolutely fabulous looks and ideas! I’ve got a gorgeous stone walled eating area just outside my kitchen – and the access is through a WINDOW( seriously) -But my big problem is I’m a listed property- the only advantage is my kitchen is not facing the front…Hmmm? Would a war with the Planning Commissioner be worth it??
I would LOVE to do something like this!-

What does a listed property mean Karen? Historical landmark? sigh, sounds wonderful that stone walled eating area, I’d probably do battle…and light a whole bunch of prayer candles to the God’s of the permit department first! That would be sooooo awesome in London, that’s for sure

Irene–I am for letting all the light possible into my home–Living in the Northwest gives us gray days frequently-so light is important–In the Summer the southside of the house (the backside with the deck which runs full length of the house-) is protected by over-hangs which prevents the sun from entering the house but gives us wonderful light—I am all for Outside Inside!!
