Kitchen Trends 2013-Part 3

Kitchen Trends 2013-Part 3

Continuing with my take of kitchen trends in 2013 is part 3, and the Industrial Trend. While many people might wonder how industrial can co exist in the same market as Old World Charm, I say in many respects they are very similar. The whole idea of reusing, repurposing and recycling…but this time with an industrial bent, whether a professional industrial kitchen, or the best elements taken from the professionals.

Let’s take a look at how you can accomplish this in your remodel:

Repurposing items found at warehouses or at Salvage shops can put a personal stamp on any space

The use of Industrial lights & Salvaged Furniture can be interpreted as modern, or…gasp, might I say it, old world!

Take a page from Restaurants by using what works in their industry…stainless counters, heavy duty plumbing fixtures and functional accessories.

I currently have clients who are completely renovating their new home. Unable to finish their kitchen the way they want to all at one time, they bought their appliances and then went on Craig’s List to buy up old restaurant pieces to use as temporary counters and storage. I personally think that they will like it so much they may never change it out.

However, these Craig’s List items can later be used for the workshop, garden shop, BBQ area, in the garage for storage, or, perhaps even a child’s changing table! You can always repurpose these terrific buys.

Open and easy access comes in the form of open shelving. While often considered inappropriate in a kitchen because of dirt, it will keep you honest with the clean up, as well as keeping things neat and tidy. It certainly takes up less room in a small kitchen and makes things very easy to find.
