I ended 2011 with a bang…literally.
On December 28th I found myself driving down to Palm Springs for an early delivery of some carpeting to update a project for a long standing client. I was T-boned in my car at a Cal Trans construction site at the Kettleman City exit off of hwy. 5. I am quite fine except for the normal aches, pains and tension that accompany such a high impact accident. My car is not! AND, I am incredibly grateful to have walked away alive, as did the other driver.
This has caused me to reflect on gratitude in general, and all the things I am grateful for in my life. So much so, that gratitude tops my list of activities to consciously part take in this year of 2012.
There is much written on the power of gratitude in our lives. I know it, I’ve felt it and the quiet happiness I feel when I am in the state of gratitude. I’ve gone through periods of keeping a gratitude journal, meditated on it and in general am quite grateful. I think however, that to be grateful consciously will shift my entire being. It is my number one resolution for the rest of my life.
We all have choices, and the only thing we are truly in control of is our reactions to life. It is my #1 New Years resolution to cultivate gratitude minute by minute.
I begin my New Year incredibly grateful for my life, my wonderful husband, my family and friends, as well as for all of you, my virtual community. Happy New Year to you and yours.
What are you grateful for in this New Year? I’d love to share in your gratitude!
“Both abundance and lack exist simultaneously in our lives, as parallel realities. It is always our conscious choice which secret garden we will tend… when we choose not to focus on what is missing from our lives but are grateful for the abundance that’s present — love, health, family, friends, work, the joys of nature and personal pursuits that bring us pleasure — the wasteland of illusion falls away and we experience Heaven on earth.” –Sarah Ban Breathnach
Check out the video below. I found it thanks to another virtual Facebook friend, Kathy Padgett Pennington. Enjoy, and cheers in this New Year.

I’m so glad to hear you’re okay, Irene! Be well, rest up and take it all in.
I’m grateful for my family, friends, the sunrise and sunset, a good cup of tea, a dry martini, the written word, hot showers, a home cooked meal, the way my son looks at me before he falls asleep, comfy shoes, my struggling garden, a warm bed and a roof over my head.
Happy New Year, my friend.

So glad you are ok! We can make a list of resolutions a mile long but if we don’t have good health, what good is it all? Be grateful for the small things in life and the things you have that can’t be replaced – life.
