I am privileged to be able to volunteer my time each year at Christmas with Worth our Weight-WOW, as they prepare over 500 gourmet holiday meals for those in need.
This dinner concept was launched and is run every year by WOW’s executive director and chef, Evelyn Cheatham. Each year the food is donated, prepared and delivered by over 60 friends who volunteer and give as they are able, all in support of Evelyn’s vision that no one should be with out on Christmas.
The dinners go to private homes of people in need, to homeless shelters, to houses for battered women, to anyone whose name had been given to Evelyn as someone who needs a good Christmas meal.
The meal is both delicious and extremely generous. In most cases, the food lasts well beyond Christmas Day. From turkey, ham and roasted chicken’s, to roasted veggies, mashed potatoes, stuffing, rolls, cookies and pie’s, everything is made as if for royalty.
Evelyn is the Chef and founder of WOW, a food service training program for underprivileged youth. The generous donations of money, time and in kind offerings from the community are what sustains WOW, not only for this holiday meal, but throughout the year. Everyone is welcome to donate to this worthy cause!
It’s always wonderful to be able to give back, and to help someone who’s life is dedicated to giving back is truly a gift.
