Here are some of heart warming facts I associate with elephants:
- Elephant trunks can get very heavy. It is not uncommon to see elephants resting them over a tusk!
- Elephants cry, play, have incredible memories, and laugh!
- Elephants are sensitive fellow animals where if a baby complains, the entire family will rumble and go over to touch and caress it.
- Elephants have greeting ceremonies when a friend that has been away for some time returns to the group.
- Elephants grieve at a loss of a stillborn baby, a family member, and in many cases other elephants.
- Elephants don’t drink with their trunks, but use them as “tools” to drink with. This is accomplished by filling the trunk with water and then using it as a hose to pour it into the elephant’s mouth.
- Elephants have long been observed to follow the same travel routes, return to clan-specific burial grounds and even pass along genetic memories of directions and places to future generations.

When elephants come into our dreams it is said that it is a message that we are able to deal with any obstacle we are faced with at this time. Dream elephants represent power, sovereignty, stability, and stead-fastness. Symbolic elephant meaning deals primarily with strength, honor, stability and patience, among other attributes. I also love their color. They are the perfect Greige, a great neutral for homes whether in paint or as an accent. I also love the Hindu god Lord Ganesha. His figure is often depicted as cute and lovable. Perhaps because he is a child. But in fact he, like elephants all over, is incredibly strong. He is known as the Lord of success and destroyer of evils and obstacles. He is also often worshipped as the god of education, knowledge, wisdom and wealth. Not bad to have him on your side! September 1, Ganesh Chaturthi, a 10-day celebration began. During Ganesh Chathurti, we honor the quality of grace that removes obstacles, protects, empowers our efforts, and escorts us to success.

And I could go on an on with stories of elephants, elephant sayings, pink elephants, white elephants etc…etc…etc…There are also some fabulous Ganesh pillows that can add a bright accent filled with joy to a room.

Irene, I LOVE your elephant post! I did not know much of this at all about elephants. For a long time there were two elephants here at the Jackson Zoo that actually painted on canvases with their trunks. It was so fun to watch them. I hope you are having a fabulous, fun, and fruitful trip. Safe travels!

Wow – you learn something new every day! I didn’t realize that the trunk isn’t used for drinking, but as a tool for carrying the liquid to the mouth… Interesting!!

I love the Ganesha statue too! I have a smaller version of it on my desk at work… What is he supposed to symbolize again?
