Top 5 Best Red Carpet Looks at the Academy Awards-2013

Yes, every now and then my ex trend director side comes out and I become a fashion critic once again! No different this year as I watched my favorite Hollywood event of the year…the 85th Academy Awards for 2013.

Like the movies of the year I didn’t see one stand out dress like I did in my coverage last year. But rather a group of beautifully dressed and mostly glamorous stars. Here is my pick of the Red Carpet looks:

#1. Ms. Charlize Theron in Christian Dior. Stunning as always, classic and lovely at the same time. Love her short haircut don’t you?

#2 Believe it or not Jennifer Anniston. Her Valentino dress, marvelous. Although a touch of elegance with the hair wouldn’t have hurt.

#3 Helen Hunt. I applaud her regal look and the fact that she bought her dress at H&M only makes it better. She has the style and grace to carry it off and very well!

#4 Reese Witherspoon looked old world Hollywood glamorous with her Rita Hayworth curls and fitted sapphire dress. As always she is a winner.

#5 While there were so many more, I want to call out Ms. Robin Roberts and congratulate her on her return to health and to the Academy Awards as another presenter. The Good Morning America anchor, who returned to work last week exactly five months after a bone marrow transplant, looked happy and healthy and glowing. Good for you Robin!

Seems a bit red, white and blue? Oh well. Two more comments…Both Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Adams wore stunning dresses! I mean truly lovely. Jennifer’s also by Christian Dior and Amy’s by the iconic dress designer Oscar de la Renta. As much as I loved them I don’t think they showed off the woman in the dress to their best. A bit pale and bridal perhaps. I think both women would have been better served with same dress, different color, but that’s me. What do you think?

Other favorite moments from the Awards was the James Bond Retrospective. As you know, I’m a major James Bond fan! I loved Dame Bassey, and as always Adele. I would have wished to see Daniel Craig….sigh, he always makes my eyes happy.

And  I miss my Grande Dames like Ms. Helen Mirren and Susan Sarandon. But all in all, it was a good night.

Congratulations to each and every winner. It was a well deserved and a well rounded evening!

Irene, I agree with you on Charlize Theron, amazing dress and fabulous hair. And she has the demeanor to carry is all off. Jennifer Anniston’s dress was gorgeous but I think 44 is getting a little old for the beach bunny look. Reese Witherspoon’s dress did something strange to her bustline. Not flattering, although the dress looked great except for the bust line. One of my favorites was Jennifer Garner, loved the color and the the ruffle down the back. She has become even more beautiful, I think. I also like Nicole Kidman’s dress. Jessica Chastain’s dress was a very interesting color with the golden beads over a pinkish color underneath – but again the weird boob thing. And speaking of boobs, I got really sick of Seth McFarlane sexist jokes! And I love your posts and comments, always!

Thanks so much for stopping by Mary Ellen! I always love sharing thoughts, inspiration and ideas with you. I neglected to say that my favorite black dress was Kristin Chenoweth…loved her dress. I actually liked this years show. Seth, well, was Seth. My favorite all time ever presenter was Quincy Jones. LOVED his fashion show. Anyway, other then Quincy, they always seem a bit off color in their joke telling. But as for the awards, I thought it was well spread out without one run away movie, and the awards were well placed. Over all I give it a 8…out of 10

Yes, Charlize was my pick too. Flawless. I love that you included Robin Roberts. She looks gorgeous! Especially after what her body has been through. Go girl!
