Style

What is Style? Well, according to Iris Apfel in a recent interview with NY Times Magazine, it’s Attitude, Attitude, Attitude! And Ms. Apfel has plenty of it.

After the success of last weeks blog on “Aging Doesn’t Look Like it Used To” I feel like I have to follow up on one of the key elements that made all those women so appealing, at least to me. Not only did they age with “Verve”, but they are aging with a style that is personal to each and everyone of them, and doesn’t really conform to a fashion trend…and, is very real.

What’s the difference between style and the trend of the day? Style is not something that is dated. It’s not just a reflection of society, but rather a reflection of you personally. As Iris says, “it’s not what you do, but how you do it, and the great style setters do it with great verve and confidence. No holds barred.

Good design, whether in fashion or in the home is always about self expression. It always looks best when it’s not too perfect, but rather more real and with a few mistakes.

The best designers, especially in interiors know this, and take the time to get to know their clients, taking into consideration the environment, lifestyle and personal taste of each and everyone of them. And then work to reflect their clients. This is what makes it fun!

So the question is, are you into style? or fashion? Are you afraid of not looking like everyone else? I say go for it! Flaunt your style! After all, “You can suffer from too much good taste!” as Diana Vreeland said, so be real and true to your SELF!

Check out Iris Apfel’s interview with NY Times Magazine below…and tell me, can you articulate your style?
