Today is the World Humanitarian Day 2013.
“This year World Humanitarian Day falls today, on August 19, the day in 2003 when 22 aid workers were killed in a bombing at the UN headquarters in Baghdad. It’s a day to commemorate all people who have lost their lives in humanitarian service and to celebrate the spirit of people helping people that motivates this work.
This year the World Humanitarian Day project is a month-long campaign of events around the world to raise much-needed funds to continue the effort to help others. My favorite event…”Sponsor a Word”.
Why Words?
Words are the most powerful currency we have. They are the way we all express ourselves; they are the path to diplomacy, peace and understanding. But imagine if you said the world needs more #shelter, and it actually created shelter for somebody?
This year we are launching a first-of-its-kind project to turn words into aid. To do this, we created the world’s first marketplace for words. This allows brands, organizations and individuals to sponsor a word and raise the money that’s needed to support humanitarian aid operations that help people in need. The more you share and donate, the more we raise for humanitarian aid.”
I love this whole idea and so encourage you to go to their website and literally sponsor a word. In the meantime…
How would you complete this sentence: The World Needs More #_______________________.
Use the # on twitter and help raise money that way too! The power of the word is truly incredible, don’t you think? It’s a Little Bit of Beauty™ for sure.
