What does the social media revolution have to do with a Little Bit of Beauty™ you ask? For me, it’s changed my life. The way I do business, how I interact with people through out my day; how I can live a global life in the comfort of my own home.
Since I can’t be on all sites well, my 4 social media sites of choice are Facebook (business and personal), YouTube, Twitter and Linkedin, probably in that order. In addition to these social media sites I also blog (which has literally got me clients),and, I met my husband 7 years ago on match.com (that made me VERY happy ). So, as a trend director it’s always rewarding to see the trend you predict and embrace, coming into fore.
How has it changed my life personally?
- I’ve been traveling less over the last two years, and facebook and twitter have helped me to stay connected to friends all over the world
- I have re-connected with friends I lost contact with over the years, from high school teachers and friends
- My college roommate who lives in Tehran found me on FB and we can even live chat through FB as she doesn’t have skype!
- I’ve also made new friends globally that keep me connected in ways I never dreamed of
- I’ve made some lovely new friends locally through Facebook that I get together with for lunch, dinner and movies. GOTTA LOVE THAT!
- As I have had fewer design projects over the last two year, I’ve had the opportunity to learn how my 4 social media sites of choice work.
- I found a painter, tech master and handyman for my interior design project in Geneva Switzerland with one post on Facebook, in which I asked for help
- Through Facebook, I met an American Painter living in the Loire Valley who runs events and sells furniture as well as his art. We will be using him as a source and visiting him for some lamps and furniture when I go to Switzerland with my clients
- Met up with many other designers and publicists etc. at the Designers Blogging Conference 2011 in LA earlier this year. I learned a lot from each and every speaker, as well as made friends with my contemporaries. Together we communicate changes in our business across the country through social media
- When my book comes out, I suspect my social media platforms will be a great way to help spread the word and sell my book. What do you think?
For those people, it will probably always be a bit freaky and they may never step on this treadmill. That’s ok. But for those of us who have, we have surged forward on this wave of Socialnomics in the 21st Century. Thanks to Erik Qualman for all his very valuable and insightful overview of this phenomenon! If you haven’t read his book, Socialnomics, I highly recommend it.
What do you think of this Social Media Revolution? Do you partake? Do you enjoy it? Have you seen a direct affect on your business? Leave a comment below…I’d really love to know.
In the meantime, check out the video below and prepare to blow your mind. Cheers!

Social Media has difinitely affected my life. It lets me keep track of relatives and old friends from my childhood. It’s also the way I keep track of my kids! This way I can see how they’re doing and what they’re up to.

Social media is definitely a big part of my life now, and it helps me to form and keep relationships that I wouldn’t have been able to maintain without it… Also, I love that cartoon!!! So cute.
