Lately I’ve found myself not unhappy, but not totally happy either.
It’s lead me to contemplate what is it that makes me feel happy? So I decided to write it down. Here is an abbreviated version of my list:
- Beauty, in all forms (just in case you didn’t know that yet)!
- My husband…just being with him
- My family-most of the time: )…
- My Grand daughter…all of the time!
- Nature
- Color-warm and fun
- Flowers
- My spiritual and yoga practice
- A moment of quiet with a good cup of coffee….OR a good glass of wine, depending on the time of day
- Working in and with space, creating beauty that reflects my clients…I truly love what I do!
- Being productive
- Music
- the Ocean
- Dark chocolate!
- Travel to someplace exciting to me
- A good book
- Swimming in warm ocean water
- Entertaining those I love…………………
……………and on, and on, and on. Reading back over my list I see that it’s really about the simple things in life. Love, special people, nature and the little bits of beauty™ I find in every day life! The other day I heard someone say…”did you know that gratitude and grace stem from the same latin base-gratia, meaning by the Grace of God, to give and receive thanks?” Perhaps that’s why it is said that to feel grateful makes you happy. After all, who isn’t happy in a state of Grace? I will be giving thanks for these little things in the conscious effort to….
Do you also know that there is a Happiness Project? Indeed, the inspiration of Gretchen Rubin of the year she spent test-driving the wisdom of the ages, the current scientific studies, and the lessons from popular culture about how to be happier. It’s worth a moment to explore by checking out the video below. Have you noticed that happiness is a very solitary process? No one can do it for you. And, yes, simply by focusing on listing what makes me happy here, I have become VERY happy!
What makes you happy? What do you do to turn yourself around when you are feeling less then happy? Won’t you share your tips and tricks in the comment section below?

Well Irene–I have been a little slow in writing this comment–just thinking things through in my head–Loved the happiness video–lots of good advice—I have to share your feelings somewhat–in that some days I am not unhappy but not leaping for joy!!I think life can take a big toll so that is why it is important to focus on the little things–
Friends–family–good health–definitely the ocean–if I could spend my summers on the beach I would be quite happy–getting in my kayak and spending quiet time by myself viewing nature–losing myself in a really good book while holding a glass of wine in the other hand–meeting new people such as you Irene through pinterest and sharing thoughts and ideas with them–i don’t think anyone walks in a state of euphoria -but happiness, I think, is most always found in the simple pleasures of life -like a beautiful sunset that takes your breath away given to us always by the grace of God–-
