This year Ardyn (my 4 year old grand daughter) and I decide to make a “Thankful Tree”…both as decor for my home, and a fun way to involve everyone on Thanksgiving day proper to share what we are all most grateful for.

We picked out a great branch from my yard. Then we selected the most beautiful and colorful leaves we could find, which we ironed between wax paper to keep their shape and color, PLUS we added acorns (Ardyn’s idea) all of which we will use to decorate our “Thankful Tree” on Thursday.

Now that Ardyn is 4, and a very smart 4 at that, it’s so much fun to involve her in the actual thought process, design, and creation of a project. Her mother is a big DIYer and an incredibly creative person, so Ardyn is all about making things. And of course, she agrees…if it’s pretty, that’s even better.

When our guests arrive they will each be given a leaf or two to write on with gold or silver wine glass pens…these are the pens we use to write our names on glasses and wine bottles. Then, Ardyn and I will hang the waxed leaves, along with the acorns of course…onto our Thankful Tree. Better then a Christmas tree, don’t you think? I may have to keep it up until the end of the year.

During our creative playdate our conversation revolved around what we were most grateful for. Ardyn’s list included flowers, trees and birds…YaYa, (that would be me) listed Ardyn & her brother Max, along with our whole family, plus my eyes, which enable me to see all things beautiful in the world!

What are you grateful for this year? And how do you focus on the gratitude part of Thanksgiving? Leave a comment below, I’d love to hear. And…come back on Friday, I’ll add pictures of our decorated Thankful Tree! Most of our guests leaves read that they were thankful for family and friends…isn’t that great?
