My latest project share is a wine tasting room, Sonoma Style™! Designed to reflect the casual down to earth lifestyle in Sonoma county, with a contemporary edge to reflect the owners aesthetic, this project is a collaboration between the owners and myself to showcase the spectacular wines from Paul Mathew Vineyard.
This project is a real pleasure as it is located right in my own back yard, literally. One mile from my home and next to my husband’s office, Sonoma County Properties Real Estate, it is in our one block town of Graton, and where our grandkids are now the 8th generation to live in or near. We are invested in our community on many levels.
While completely different in size, scope and style from the Sanford Wine Tasting Room I designed a couple of years ago, Paul Mathew Vineyard truly represents the best of Sonoma County Wine Country-Recently rated as the #1 Wine Destination in the US by Trip Advisor, and by Sunset Magazine as #1 in the Sonoma/Napa wine face off!
Keeping with the practices of our Sonoma County GoLocal-the wine, dining table, retail fixtures and gifts are all bought and made locally. The dining table in particular was cut and milled sustainably and locally at Sturgens Mill and can seat 18 when side by side, or up to 26 when moved into the main room into one long 24 foot table.
Along with a chalk board wall (good for upcoming classes and seminars), fish traps turned into chandeliers, and school room chairs, the “dining” room is ready. Barb and Mat Gustafson, who are both sommeliers, have scheduled and put together educational and introductory seminars to appeal to local Slow Food and wine lovers, ranging from:
- food & wine pairings
- olive oil tastings
- local cheese and charcuterie tastings and pairings
- and different locavore wine & dine experiences
At this point they are open for tastings on week ends (Thursday through Sunday from 10:30 to 4:30) and have held their industry introduction party. Their grand opening will be in January and by then we will hopefully have finished with the retail side of the business; sourcing more local wine accessories and products and setting up the “store” so to speak. In the meantime, wine lovers have the opportunity to enjoy the the wine in the new tasting room.
The tasting room, along with the phenomenal wines by Mat, a midwest transplant who earned his wine making wings right here in Sonoma from such luminaries as Merry Edwards Winery, Dutton Estate, and Moshin Vineyard, make Graton a must stop on the wine tour here in Sonoma County!
