Geneva, Switzerland-via Santa Rosa Interior Design

As you know, I’ve recently returned from my trip to Geneva and the Loire Valley. Fabulous trip, and although I lived for a short while in Zurich, Switzerland, I had never been to Geneva before. It’s a wonderful city! Even though I was there to work, I still had time to stroll around the streets, traversing from the lake, to old town, the Champel District to the Rive, and PlainPalais!

Nestled between Lake Geneva and the Alps, Geneva hosts some of the best skiing in Europe including Mt. Blanc and Chamonix. Historically, Geneva was the birthplace of the Red Cross organisation and even now it is viewed as the capital of peace and neutrality, hosting the headquarters of the UN and other international organisations. Also know as the home to great watches, and fabulous chocolate, it is the 5th most expensive city in the world…and I will attest to that!

The symbol of Geneva is the “Jet Eau”. Seen from many parts of the city, this water fountain, rising and falling 140 metres/459 feet from Lake Geneva , is a giant water spout . It is quite stunning in person as you can literally feel the power it generates, as well the spray when you are down by the lake. At night, all lit up, it is truly magnificent.

It’s hard  to list my favorite part of my trip to Geneva, but here are a few:

  • the fabulous pastries and chocolate-the best, and I didn’t gain any weight!
  • the luscious farmers market that runs every Wednesday and Friday from April to October, and sometimes into November
  • and of course the Plainpalais, the cities flea market. Also on Wednesdays and Fridays. I wish I had a container to bring some fab finds home
  • old town…the restaurants, cobbled streets and architecture are divine
  • how clean and tidy everything is
  • turning a corner and catching a glimpse of the alps
  • and the lush greenery as there are parks everywhere

What cities do you enjoy traveling to? What about them do you enjoy? Leave me a comment below, I’d love to hear. In the meantime, check out the video below for a view of Geneva through my eyes! Enjoy

  1. Eating the pastries and chocolate didn’t get you any extra weight? Man, I’m jealous! I even LOOK at a pastry or chocolate and I swear my thighs get bigger.
