Orange-a combo of Red & Yellow-is one of my favorite colors, and that’s saying a lot for a color lover like me. I love orange because it is the color of joy and enthusiasm. It is vibrant and extroverted in feel. From nature, to the runways, and always in our homes, orange is just plain fun.
There is also something about the saturated, bold color of orange that screams warm weather to me. Perhaps because it’s such a hot hue itself. A close relative of red, it often sparks more controversy than any other hue. There is usually strong positive or negative, love or hate, association with orange.
Sometimes used as just as an accessory to pop the colors in a room…
And sometimes as the main color in a room…
- It is stimulating, a little like red
- Stimulates appetite and activity
- Encourages socialization and creativity
- It is warm, energizing and flamboyant
- It is the color of the second chakra
- It is sexy, spiritual and emotional in nature.
- It is bold, dramatic and very bright
A shade of the touted color of the year, honeysuckle, I particularly love orange together with it’s complimentary color blue. From navy to turquoise and all shades in between, it is the perfect mix. When used in combination in home decor, it makes each color look brighter and more intense.
Lately I’ve been seeing orange with its split complimentary colors, either purple or green and am finding that fresh and interesting.
And, believe it or not, mixed with grey or black without looking like it’s Halloween!
From an aromatherapy point of view, Orange Peel has a very strong scent, and is very refreshing, and cooling. It is a great scent for Spring-Fall, and into winter when mixed with cloves. It’s aromatherapy benefits are that it is cheering, refreshing, uplifting, cleansing.
Orange is also the color of the Sacral Chakra and when healthy, allows a person to “go with the flow” of life. People who resonate with orange are able to express themselves through art, music or other creative outlet, using their unique abilities in a positive and constructive way to thrive in life.
