“I fell off my pink cloud with a thud.”— Elizabeth Taylor

I haven’t been much of a pink person. I don’t know why, but for some reason I’m beginning to like just a touch of pink. Perhaps it’s spring? Or, I’m the grandmother of a baby girl, so it could be exposure? Or, perhaps it’s part of the trend towards the lightening up of color in general, and fun, show stopping colors to add pop to a room. Or perhaps just a touch…

It could also be that my eye is finally doing what Pantone predicted when they chose honeysuckle as the color of the year for 2011 (although I still think of honeysuckle as a pale yellow, grumble, grumble!). Pink has many meanings. Distilled down, soft pinks are often thought to be the color of youth, innocence and the heart. Hence it is the color that most often is associated with little girls, or girls of any age. Hot pink on the other hand is stimulating so represents passion or sex. Either way, heartfelt or sexual, it is more often then naught associated with female energy, and is considered the color of LOVE and Romance…at least here in the western world.

From flowers to accessories, art or even whole walls, pink seems to add  a special light to a room and a special blush to a person. One of my favorite tricks to add romance to any room is to use pink light bulbs. In the early 20th century designers used to line lamp shades in pink silk to cast that pink glow, warming up a woman’s face, making her look more youthful.

My favorite way to use pink in interiors is in combinations, especially mixed with other warm colors such as shades of yellow, orange and red.

And I’ll leave you with another famous quote from fashion Doyenne, Diana Vreeland:

“I adore pink. It’s the navy blue of India.”

I, too, like a bit of pink these days as an accent color. I definitely don’t like a pink room, but mixed with other colors, pink gives a nice “pop” to a space.

It does, doesn’t it Leslie? I myself am a dark pink person, raspberry, fucshia, that level of color…and of course mixed with yellow is my very favorite! Have a great week end

I don’t have even a teeny bit of pink in my house or in my wardrobe because of the color of my hair and skin tones. But….I love to look at it and love to combine it with red, orange and yellow. It definitely gives me a lift. Saffronia

I guess it depends on the color of your skin…could be an orangey pink (coral) or a red pink, or a purple pink…If it gives you a lift you can always have it at least in your flowers! Happy pink week end Saffronia, and thanks for stopping by!

I haven’t been much of a pink person either. I have one pale pink linen tunic shirt, and one fuchsia cable-knit halter top. Can’t remember an adult room in which I have use pink. Love your examples though. 🙂

I came across this article on BBC News a while back where I learned that in the early 1900s pink was for boys and blue for girls. It is an interesting piece. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/7817496.stm

    Cheers,

thanks for the link Claudia, and for stopping by. I too don’t have much pink, but love pink flowers, especially peonies. However, as I said, I’m finding myself drawn to it. One friend on FB said that pink was the color of hope to her. I loved that!
