W.E.-An Interesting Point of View

W.E.-An Interesting Point of View

OK, all you design and style aficionado’s, W.E., Madonna’s new movie is a new take on the greatest romance of the 20th Century, with a visually beautiful set throughout.

W.E., Wallis & Edward, portray’s their story from her point of view; not what Edward gave up for her, but rather what she gave up for him. I have to admit, it rings true to me, and…it’s done in visually beautiful way.

There are over 80 costume changes by Wallis, with outfits by designers such as, Balenciaga, Christian Dior, Madeleine Vionnet and Elsa Schiaparelli. Plus added costumes by  John Galliano and Issa, the historically divine jewelry from Pierre Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels, and hats by Stephen Jones.

Then, of course there are the bespoke tailored clothes, Alfred Dunhill and Saville Row suits for Edward! And, not to mention the fabulous homes, and sites including London and Palm Beach, with forays in New York and France, including the Hotel Le Meurice.

Most have panned it, saying it’s a superficial look at an old story; that the two parallel stories never really come together; and that it was vanity run amuck by Madonna. Well, I liked it! But then I’m a visual person. And, the story of Wallis and Edward is fascinating to me.

Yes, Wallis was never really beautiful, but she had an incredible sense of style and always portrayed herself elegantly. I liked this fresh view of their relationship…not always perfect, a celebrity obsession that is not easy to live with, I don’t care who you are. And personally, I thought the modern day parallel story was perfectly set to show that what we see in public is not always the same as what goes on behind closed doors.

After all, it would be pretty difficult to exhibit everyday angst, displeasure and the ups and downs of a marriage when you are purportedly living out the greatest love story of the century, don’t you think?

I’d love to hear what you think of the movie. Why don’t you watch it and get back to me? Thoughts? Hmmm…looking forward to hearing from you.
