Greige-the New Neutral: via Santa Rosa Interior Design
Posted by Irene Turner in Color, Interior Design & Renovation, Personal Style & Well being, Projects on February 15, 2011
I’m excited to help a new client create a home and a new life in a loft space in San Francisco. Spending time with him and asking all sorts of questions I found out two facts to which I dedicate this post; while his favorite color is grey, he wants his home to feel warm. On the surface that could sound like an oxymoron, but can I tell you, it’s really not!
Meet the new neutral, and one I believe will be the new neutral as we move forward into this second decade of the 21st century…Greige.
What is Greige? A colour between grey and beige, closely akin to taupe; Unfinished; not fully processed; neither bleached nor dyed. There is even a whole blog devoted to greige and it’s uses in interior design! Warm and wonderful, greige is the perfect neutral to mix with other fun and exciting pop colors such as turquoise, purples and golds. It warms up even more when mixed with all shades of brown, and this is the color story we decided to work with as the foundation in creating my clients new home. My OWN TV Show Proposal
Posted by Irene Turner in Projects on June 28, 2010
As many of you know, Oprah announced that she was searching for the next TV star for her new network station OWN. I first heard about it on twitter about a month ago and immediately wanted to put my ideas together.
I’ve been thinking about my own TV show for sometime. I always said I wanted it on Oprah, and always thought of it as happening some time in the future. When Oprah announced that she was ending her career as a talk show host and starting her own channel…well…perfect I thought! That’s where my show will be. And then, I saw the announcement on twitter. A Colorful Home!
Posted by Irene Turner in Color, Projects on April 15, 2010
Every now and then I work on a project that really stands out in one way or another for me. This one is all about happy color! A bit closer to home this time, this project is located here in the East Bay of San Francisco. My client was born in India. While being completely Americanized, he and his daughter did want to maintain a bit of their culture while bringing in a comfortable and modern American feel for their home. This was a decorating project only, meaning we did no renovation or construction, save changing out the counter tops in the kitchen. Continue reading “A Colorful Home!” »
Designing the Sanford Wine Tasting Room

Sanford Wine Tasting room was just that. The wine tasting room is located at Rancho La Rinconada 40 minutes north of Santa Barbara. With the success of the movie Sideways, millions of filmgoers discovered Sanford, which was the first stop on the characters’ Santa Barbara wine county tour. While I am an avid lover of Pinot Noir living in Pinot country, Sideways introduced Pinot Noir to a host of international wine drinkers not yet familiar with this great varietal. Thanks in large part to the Terlato Wine Group and Sanfords’ winemaker Steve Fennell , Sanford is considered one of the top 5 vineyards for Pinot in the United States! Renovation-It’s All About the Plan
Posted by Irene Turner in Interior Design & Renovation, Projects on November 30, 2009
This particular project in Carlsbad, CA began in November of 2006 as my clients and I sat in a restaurant for our preliminary meeting. They had owned their tracked home for about 5 years and wanted to do a “small” renovation to make the space more family friendly. We sat there discussing their needs and how they envisioned themselves living in their space over the next 20 years. We discussed how they wanted to take advantage of their western view of the ocean (and the accompanying sunsets) with indoor/outdoor living, and how they planned to entertain. They wanted their home to be the place for family and friends to hang out.
Sitting there I began to draw the floor plan on a napkin. The prize napkin went to the architect/engineer and from there the project started to roll. The finished plan ended up being bigger and more expensive then originally anticipated, but it was what my clients wanted and they were realistic, adopting the mantra…”we don’t need to get everything done at once.” Continue reading “Renovation-It’s All About the Plan” »
