Collaboration-The Basis of all Good Design

It was a pleasure to have lunch with a like minded professional the other day in sunny Sausalito. Daniel Weaver, Architect and owner of 361 Architecture and Design Collaborative is a believer!  It really is “all about having a cohesive plan.

His company, 361 is all about integrative design and collaborating with professionals to work with clients to help them achieve their dream space, whether homes, offices or multi use buildings. We agree, creating a wholistic plan up front,  allows you to create the road map so that every step of the way you are feeding the end result, a beautiful and wholistic space that reflects you.

We also agree that assembling the perfect team for your project is crucial to creating your plan. Why do we say this?

Geneva Switzerland-Project via Santa Rosa Interior Design

My clients apartment is in this lovely building in the Champel District of Geneva

I’m back from Geneva! Yes, it was a fabulous trip…and…it’s always great to come home isn’t it?

And, of course, that was the purpose of this trip, to create a home. It was not to design an interior space, but rather to consult with two adults, in mid age, combining two separate and completed households, merging two distinctly different styles and creating their first home together…in a much smaller space…in Geneva Switzerland, far from family and friends!

Yes, quite a feat for them wouldn’t you say? It was a pleasure and a privilege to be able to consult with them through out the process, from our first meeting in Nashville where we edited each house into three piles:    Continue reading “Geneva Switzerland-Project via Santa Rosa Interior Design” »

Home Renovation: to Live In-Part 1

I believe that homes are meant to change and to reflect the people who live in them at different stages of life.

I also believe that it is important to hire a design professional when putting together your plans. Not that you can’t execute your plans with the contractor yourself, and over time if it makes more sense for your budget, but because:

Design Bloggers Conference:Inspiration and Connection

Last week I attended the Design Blogging Conference in LA. I’ve been blogging now for a year and four months…yes, I’m counting. Sometimes I wonder why? It takes time, thought and creative inspiration to blog twice a week, every week, rain or shine, no matter how busy I am. And yes, there are people who post everyday, but that would not be me.

Greige-the New Neutral: via Santa Rosa Interior Design

I’m excited to help a new client create a home and a new life in a loft space in San Francisco. Spending time with him and asking all sorts of questions I found out two facts to which I dedicate this post; while his favorite color is grey, he wants his home to feel warm.  On the surface that could sound like an oxymoron, but can I tell you, it’s really not!

Meet the new neutral, and one I believe will be the new neutral as we move forward into this second decade of the 21st century…Greige.

What is  Greige? A colour between grey and beige, closely akin to taupe; Unfinished; not fully processed; neither bleached nor dyed. There is even a whole blog devoted to greige and it’s uses in interior design! Warm and wonderful, greige is the perfect neutral to mix with other fun and exciting pop colors such as turquoise, purples and golds.  It warms up even more when mixed with all shades of brown, and this is the color story we decided to work with as the foundation in creating my clients new home.    Continue reading “Greige-the New Neutral: via Santa Rosa Interior Design” »
