Bocce Ball-via Sonoma County Interior Design
Posted by Irene Turner in Entertaining Sonoma Style on May 8, 2012
Here in Sonoma County we’ve picked up the Italian sport of Bocce. Many of our backyard’s and outdoor living areas include courts on which to play this old world game.
If you haven’t heard of it, Bocce is a ball sport belonging to the boules (predominantly French) sport family, closely related to bowls and pétanque, all have a common ancestry from the Roman Empire. Developed into its present form in Italy, it’s a perfect game. Continue reading “Bocce Ball-via Sonoma County Interior Design” »
Wisteria-Via Santa Rosa Interior Design
Posted by Irene Turner in Nature on April 24, 2012
It’s wisteria season again, and my back yard is filled with these luscious blooms and divine scent! Just last week I posted a picture of my wisteria in bloom on Facebook which elicited a tremendous response, so I thought I’d share more.
When my husband and I bought our home 8 years ago it was considered a fixer upper to put it nicely. But, being an interior designer, and my husband a Real Estate Broker, we looked past the ruble and checked out the bones. Nothing sold us more on this house over others then the 25 foot by 25 foot wisteria arbor in the back yard…no matter the neglect. Continue reading “Wisteria-Via Santa Rosa Interior Design” »
Downsizing & Rightsizing-via Santa Rosa Interior Design
Posted by Irene Turner in Downsizing/Right Sizing, Product/Trend Alert! on March 13, 2012
ALERT, THIS NEW TREND IS GROWING: The buzz word is downsizing, I prefer to call it right sizing. For some, in fact, it is going smaller. I see this quite a bit here on our Northern California coast.
And for others, there is a desire to create a space that flows with the way they really live their life, and truly fits their needs; not some cookie cutter McMansion created by a developer as a business investment. I call this right sizing and it is part of the Slow Home movement. Some signs of this are: Continue reading “Downsizing & Rightsizing-via Santa Rosa Interior Design” »
Tom Kundig-via Santa Rosa Interior Design
Posted by Irene Turner in Architecture on March 8, 2012
Tom Kundig is one of my favorite architects. To me, he’s an immensily talented engineer/industrialist/architect with an extremely creative vision. He is an owner/principle in the architect firm Olson Kundig Architects in Seattle.
While I wouldn’t say that I’m an Industrialist, nor a Modernist in style, I would say that Tom is both, and I LOVE the sense of style he brings to items that could look hard and cold. I think he is one of the most creative individuals I’ve seen because his work is characterized by such a strong personal direction.
Olson Kundig are know for working with artists and craftspeople and that more then anything is integral to what they do. Continue reading “Tom Kundig-via Santa Rosa Interior Design” »
