Window Seats-via Santa Rosa Interior Design
Posted by Irene Turner in Interior Design & Renovation on February 1, 2011
One of the things I love most about my living room is our window seat. It’s where I sit first thing in the morning with my coffee, watch the sun rise and spend a little quiet time before I hit the day running. It’s also where I can catch a little nap or reading time with my Grand daughter, time well spent for the two of us.
A window seat is a great addition to your home. I often add window seats for my interior design clients since the space beneath a window is often wasted. Window seats can provide both extra storage space as well as a place to sit, relax, read a book and look out the window. Window seats can be very versatile, offering: Continue reading “Window Seats-via Santa Rosa Interior Design” »
Serenbe Community-via Santa Rosa Interior Design

As I discussed in my post on Home Trends Part 2, there is a renewed interest in urban living and planned communities as people try to simplify their way of life and the quality of it. Personally I prefer the concept of planned communities (or small towns) as they benefit a slower and more intimate way of living. They address real problems such as-drive time (and cost) for daily living needs; connection with our neighbors and the sense of community we crave; additional ease for aging in place; while still maintaining a back to nature and organic way of life. Recently I read about a planned community in Georgia that I consider a great example of what I’m talking about. Here in their words:
SERENBE is found in the heart of Chattahoochee Hill Country. This 40,000 acres of bucolic southern countryside is about the same size as Napa Valley, and is one of the last undeveloped stretches of land in the Atlanta area. Continue reading “Serenbe Community-via Santa Rosa Interior Design” »
6 Tips for Closet Organization-via Santa Rosa Interior Design

Did you know that January is get organized month? Yes it is, and it’s a great time to do so. Why do I believe that organization is so important? Between our busy lives and all the change in our world, the more organized we are the easier it is to move through change and keep on track in our daily lives. I actually like getting organized, on all levels, at the beginning of the year rather in than in the spring. For one thing, it feels like a fresh start. For another, the beginning of the year tends to be slower for me. It’s the perfect time for attacking those messy closets!
Here are some tips and tricks to getting your closet organized: Continue reading “6 Tips for Closet Organization-via Santa Rosa Interior Design” »
5 Home Trends-Part 1-2011 and Beyond

Mixing it all up with an edgy twist is the key to pulling together your home in 2011 and beyond. By mixing we create a more personal look. Gone are the matching pieces and in comes the layered look, all the better if collected over time and tell the story of your life. Also, pay attention to:
- unusual color mixes
- mix of texture, such as rough and rustic with smooth and modern
- re-purposed items from your past with a nod to Green
These five looks can all tell a story, preferably yours, and create a mood that is filled with atmosphere and personal memories.
1. Wallpaper: While this may not be my favorite trend, it is definitely making a comeback. If I have to pick a favorite style in wallpaper, I’d select as #1, chinoiserie. Dramatic, bold, traditional yet it can mix with modern pieces as well as antiques. It becomes the art in and of itself, although I also love it layered with art. My second fav…geometric patterns, in neutral or bold color combos.

Coco and Igor-Fabulous Flow of Fashion and Interior Design
Posted by Irene Turner in Color, Inspiration, Personal Style & Well being on January 6, 2011
I finally saw the movie Coco Chanel and Igor Stravinsky last night, about 4 months late as it came to the USA in September of 2010!
If you follow me here, you know I LOVE Chanel! Between her feminist liberation of the female body, to her timeless perfume and her innate sense of style in everything she did, and of course the clothes, Coco Chanel was a “change agent” of her time. I first wrote about her in the movie Coco Before Chanel in November of 2009. In it Audrey Tautou who played a young Coco was incredible, and the movie was visual eye candy. In this movie Anna Mouglalis as Coco in her prime is simply stunning, and…the visual feast continues! Continue reading “Coco and Igor-Fabulous Flow of Fashion and Interior Design” »
