7 Tips to Choosing Paint Colors-via Santa Rosa Interior Design
Posted by Irene Turner in Color, Interior Design & Renovation on June 1, 2011
Nothing can change the energy, feel and update or freshen up the overall look of a house faster then a new coat of paint.
Color cannot only dramatically change your home environment but is also one of the easiest and least expensive ways to achieve it. Color can infuse your home with life…calm and relax you, or…rejuvenate your spirit. Color is personal. It can make a bold statement or it can be subdued and mellow. You will create an entirely different mood depending on your choice of color as you can see in the photos below…same room, 4 different moods. #1 Ladies Detective Agency-colorful on every level

I’m writing this blog post because of a casual comment by Pat Zahn left on my blog post about tea, she said: “Also reminds me of the book series, #1 Ladies Detective Agency; I got into Red Bush tea because of that series – the ritual of the tea permeates the stories.” OMG, how could I have forgotten about these fabulous, fabulous, fabulous books and HBO TV series? (see…inspiration CAN come from everywhere!)
What does this have to do with Little Bit’s of Beauty ™ you ask? Well, in an era of violence, crudeness and utter banality on TV, this show is beautiful in it’s simplicity! I LOVE the cadence of the speech of all the characters. The slow simple lifestyle depicted is beautiful, the characters are funny, irreverent and downright human…plus the colors and patterns used in the show’s homes, dress, and artwork used for the intro to the show are all stunning and inspiring to me as a designer! Give Yourself Flowers

What is it about Spring that makes me want to run out and buy flowers? I mean, it’s not like our winters here in Northern California are particularly harsh or grey…well maybe grey, but also emerald green. Never the less, every spring I want to fill my garden with blooms, and place them all over my house! They simply make me happy.
Flowers can be:
- as elaborate as a banquet arrangement
- multiple arrangements in one room
- a simple as a single bud in a vase Continue reading “Give Yourself Flowers” »

“I fell off my pink cloud with a thud.”– Elizabeth Taylor
I haven’t been much of a pink person. I don’t know why, but for some reason I’m beginning to like just a touch of pink. Perhaps it’s spring? Or, I’m the grandmother of a baby girl, so it could be exposure? Or, perhaps it’s part of the trend towards the lightening up of color in general, and fun, show stopping colors to add pop to a room. Or perhaps just a touch… Continue reading “Pink-via Santa Rosa Interior Design” »
Sunbrella-Not Just For The Outdoors Anymore
Posted by Irene Turner in Interior Design & Renovation, Product/Trend Alert! on March 10, 2011
As an Interior Designer I’ve completed coastal projects from Cabo San Lucas up through Southern California and right on up here to the Sonoma Coast; and, on the east coast from South Beach to New York.
Clients in these locals-and including Palm Springs where the sun is merciless-express a desire for indoor/outdoor interiors that can withstand daily life. This means with big windows to be able to see fantastic views (why would you want to close the curtains on that?), with easy access directly into nature, that also let in lot’s of harmful sun rays. Plus the daily reality of everyone walking in and out, constantly.
The question they all have is-if they are going to invest a lot of money creating a beautiful home (and often times their second or third home), how can they justify doing so and still enjoy living in it comfortably and without worrying about the durability of their furniture for the long haul? Well, upholstry, accessories, rugs and protective window coverings have come a long way Babe!
Check out…Sunbrella. After 50 years in business, they have now also nailed residential fabrics!
