Fall is in the air and as I usually do, I start to think warm food, and, that’s easy to make and serve. What better then a chili or a stew? Last week when I was in Palm Springs, my friend Eileen made what I call a Chicken Chili Stew, the best of both. Delicious, filling and most of all easy. A one pot, one dish meal!
I’m having a love affair with Gray! Grey, Gray, Greige…light, dark and every shade in between. Inspiration for gray comes from nature, photography and every other place you can imagine. And I personally think it looks fabulous in our homes today. I’ve already written one blog on the fact that greige (a combo of gray and beige) […]
I love the city of Palm Springs! From old world Spanish architecture, classic mid-century modern homes once owned by such luminaries as the Rat Pack and Cary Grant, to the best re-sell furniture stores around…Palm Springs is definitely a destination for those serious about finding unique and one of kind items for their home. And not just mid-century either.
Shades of Blues, from soft aquatic calm shades, to mysterious navy’s. They have not been as prevalent in contemporary interior decor as they used to be. But never the less, blue is still the overwhelming favorite amongst all the colors there are.
I must admit, I have a new obsession. It’s called:
Recently on Facebook, I met designer and artist Susan Wechsler. She is a creator. Working with discarded items, flea market finds and old broken plates, she creates some of the most beautiful and sacred pieces I’ve ever seen. Susan works primarily with antique china, stained glass, figurines, tiles, and gem stones; she works instinctively to create mosaics that are what I would call spiritual art.
Traveling through the country side in the Loire Valley is an odyssey of luscious green fields and old stone towns. Each town comes with it’s requisite church, and of course…it’s magnificent family chateau.
Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.
As you know, I’ve recently returned from my trip to Geneva and the Loire Valley. Fabulous trip, and although I lived for a short while in Zurich, Switzerland, I had never been to Geneva before. It’s a wonderful city! Even though I was there to work, I still had time to stroll around the streets, traversing from the lake, to old town, the Champel District to the Rive, and PlainPalais!
I want to know from all of you…yes, you designers, architects, home retailers and people restoring or renovating your own home…are you interested in traveling to the Loire in a group to travel around the country side, check out the brocantes and buy, to put in a group container and ship back home?
Just a short walk from Moulin Breteon is the small town of Linières-Bouton. Home to 96 people, one low income house, Napoleon’s great, great grandniece, the requisite church and chateau; and…Jonathan Robinson who calls himself an ”aesthetic refugee,” and who is bent on preserving the traditional architecture of France one building at a time.
Nestled deep in the Loire Valley is an old 19th Century Water Mill (called a Moulin in French) that has been restored and renovated into a fabulous bed and breakfast. Owned by artist Jonathan Robinson, and called Moulin Bregeon, it is one of the most tranquil, rejuvenating and uplifting places on earth.
I’m back from Geneva! Yes, it was a fabulous trip…and…it’s always great to come home isn’t it? And, of course, that was the purpose of this trip, to create a home.
I don’t know about you, but I LOVE Elephants. They are wonderful animals with many faces and meanings across different walks of life and cultures.
I’m off to Geneva Switzerland tomorrow to help a client and her husband to be get settled into their new apartment. Yes…I am a lucky girl, and yes…it is a wonderfully challenging project. Here is just a little of what it will entail.
