My Love Affair with Gray-Via Santa Rosa Interior Design

I’m having a love affair with Gray! Grey, Gray, Greige…light, dark and every shade in between. Inspiration for gray comes from nature, photography and every other place you can imagine. And I personally think it looks fabulous in our homes today.

Thanks to FeeFee RN's blog for this great image

I’ve already written one blog on the fact that greige (a combo of gray and beige) is the new neutral of the decade. And, I’m incredibly pleased by that as I’ve never been much of a beige fan. Beige has always looked washed out and a bit dirty to my eye…but grey, that’s a whole other story.

How do I love gray? Let me count the ways:   Continue reading “My Love Affair with Gray-Via Santa Rosa Interior Design” »

Uptown Design District-Shopping Palm Springs

Cover from Peter Moruzz's Palm Springs Holiday Book-Pure Vintage PS

I love the city of Palm Springs! From old world Spanish architecture, classic mid-century modern homes once owned by such luminaries as the Rat Pack and Cary Grant; to unique furniture stores and the best re-sell furniture shops around…Palm Springs is definitely a destination for those serious about finding unusual and one of kind items for their home.

And not just mid-century either. Continue reading “Uptown Design District-Shopping Palm Springs” »

Shades of Blue-Via Santa Rosa Interior Design

Shades of Blues range from soft aquatic calm shades to mysterious navy’s. They have not been as prevalent in contemporary interior decor as they used to be. But never the less, blue is still the overwhelming favorite amongst all the colors there are.

While not really a gender specific color, many men say blue is there favorite color. I believe this is because men run warmer body temperature wise, and have a higher testosterone level so, they are looking for balance and choose blue. In general blues are considered cool, calm and peaceful. They are considered a color of dependability, trustworthiness and committed. Blues are often used in classic or traditional room settings.

I found this on FB. Would the designer please let me know who this is?

Softer blues are known as the color of Divinity. These shades enhance:    Continue reading “Shades of Blue-Via Santa Rosa Interior Design” »

Pinterest-via Santa Rosa Interior Design

I must admit, I have a new obsession. It’s called:

About 2 weeks ago in an effort to clean out, organize and downsize I threw out about 18 years of magazine swipes…all neatly filed by room or category…plus, about 10 years of favorite magazines. GASP…Yes, I really did.

I almost hyperventilated while decluttering. Being a visual person I LOVE inspirational pictures and had created quite a library for research and for presentations.

But the truth is, I haven’t created a physical board or used my magazines or swipes for clients in at least a couple of years. Everything I do now is on the computer. Between google images, on-line magazines, interior design blogs and my portfolio, I can create all my presentations as a power point directly on my computer.

Literally the same week I did this a friend recommended Pinterest (Interest with a P in front). This was the third time I heard about it, and while I had already signed up for it, I hadn’t done anything about it yet. And now…I am addicted.

Pinterest is a virtual pin board, or creative visualization board. What can you do on it?   Continue reading “Pinterest-via Santa Rosa Interior Design” »

Sacred Space-Works of Art by Susan Wechsler

Recently on Facebook, I met designer and artist Susan Wechsler. She is a creator. Working with discarded items, flea market finds and old broken plates, she creates some of the most beautiful and sacred pieces I’ve ever seen. Susan works primarily with antique china, stained glass, figurines, tiles, and gem stones; she works instinctively to create mosaics that are what I would call spiritual art.

"Aura"

As she says:   Continue reading “Sacred Space-Works of Art by Susan Wechsler” »
