It’s Turquoise for 2010!

As we approach the new year Pantone, the global authority on color, and provider of professional color standards for the design industries, has announced PANTONE® 15-5519 Turquoise, as the color for 2010. A blend of blue and green, shades of turquoise have a calming effect. This in-between color represents water, thus the names aqua and aquamarine. It’s also a valuable and popular mineral often turned into jewelry. Turquoise symbolizes intuition and communication. And, turquoise is a mainstay in all art forms from the Middle East and the American Southwest.

It looks great in the summer paired with white, and other brights, and for a more sophisticated look with grey and black…or with brown. For a kicky and fun combination, mix it with pink and purple…no matter how you use it, either as a fashion statement or in your space, turquoise can uplift you!

When I think of turquoise, I think of…fresh, clean, water, air, fun,and warm, even though it is a cool color. Warm, because on every warm weather vacation I’ve taken, from the Greek Isles, the Caribbean and Hawaii…the overwhelming color has been turquoise water as it merges into the turquoise sky! Warm, sunny and breezy, yes!…for me turquoise is a color that means vacation.

Turquoise is so inspiring there is even a blog written only on this one color…The House of Turquoise. So, as we enter the new year, think of accenting with turquoise…paint a room, add pillows and a throw. Highlight water art, wear turquoise jewelry…buy a turquoise appliance and research your next warm get away…perhaps to Turks and Caicos?

ENJOY!

Oooh… I like that turquoise, the color of the sea, “has a calming effect.” Looking back on 2010, there should have been a smidgen more turquoise.

I remember being in Tariffa, southern-most tip of Spain, and the Moorish city was splashed with turquoise. I loved that city.
